Osteoarthritis – ~¼ of overweight dogs will develop serious joint complications.
Heart disease and increased blood pressure
Difficulty breathing – this occurs due to additional fat in the chest constricting full expansion of the lungs
Decreased stamina and exercise intolerance
Impaired liver function – excess fat is stored in the liver resulting in a condition called hepatic lipidosis. This is especially common in overweight cats.
Increased risk of ‘slipped discs’ especially in certain breeds of dogs like Daschunds.
Decreased quality and length of life
